Ecology Programs
By definition, divers are ambassadors and stewards of the underwater world. Through their responsible handling of the underwater flora and fauna, they make a significant contribution to the preservation of this huge habitat. This makes it all the more important to continue to educate yourself in order to stay up to date.
The SSI Ecology programs impart well-founded basic knowledge and can largely be completed online.
Coral identification
This course gives an insight into the world of corals.
You will learn about the basic structures of corals and coral reefs, and their diverse methods of reproduction, culminating in coral blooms.
You will also learn to identify different coral families and assess a coral's health status.

Corals and coral reefs are famous for their beauty and abundance of life. introduction

Fish identification
What did I see underwater today?
In this course you will learn how to deal with fish and all other living creatures under water. In this course you will learn to correctly identify the underwater creatures and to be able to assign them to their different genera, whether fish, mussels, snails or crustaceans....
Requirements:
Open Water Diver or Junior Open Water Diver
Price: 140 US $ incl. theory, dives, course material, certification, rental equipment!
Marine ecology
The ocean is big and mysterious, full of creatures that seem alien to us land dwellers.
Correct knowledge, which is gained through studying the teaching materials and during the theory lessons with your instructor, replaces fears and misunderstandings with correct information. This allows you to really enjoy the adventure of diving.
For example, many people think that sharks are mindless creaturesn who attack anything and everyone without warning.
Your instructor will show you during the training that e.g. B. Sharks are an important part of the marine ecosystem and it has become a rare privilege for divers to even see a shark in its natural habitat.

The dives are optional during this program, making it an excellent "prep specialty" prior to the start of a vacation.

Shark ecology
Marine mammals are a diverse group of animals that live in all of the world's oceans. They are linked by their common dependence on the ocean and marine ecosystem for their food and survival.
In this course, you will explore the great diversity of marine mammals and learn what makes them different, how they differ from mammals on land, where they live, what they eat, how to tell one marine mammal from another, and how we can protect marine mammals.
Price: 140 US $ incl. theory, dives, course material, certification, rental equipment!
Marine ecology
Rays, and their close relatives sharks, have been around for several hundred million years. Some species evolved long before dinosaurs roamed the earth, and yet we know surprisingly little about these majestic creatures. We don't even know how old they live, when they become sexually mature, or how far they migrate.
When you think of rays, what image comes involuntarily to mind? Is it a southern stingray lurking beneath the pearly white sand or a majestic eagle ray hovering over a large block of coral? Perhaps it's their grandfather, the giant manta ray, which can measure a wingspan of up to six meters and glides through the open sea like an owl cutting through the silence of the cool twilight.
In this program, you'll find out what makes a ray tick, how they differ from sharks, where they live, what they eat, and how to tell rays apart.

Coral identification
Gracefully and with the greatest of ease, sea turtles glide through the seas and swim to distant beaches to ensure the preservation of their species.
You'll learn the history of these marine reptiles, the natural and anthropogenic (man-made) threats to their survival, how they reproduce, and how they cope with today's great challenges.
You'll learn about the seven species still alive and be able to identify them.
How do sea turtles manage to travel vast distances on their migrations and yet always find their way back to their own birth beach to lay their eggs? Did you know that although sea turtles live in the ocean, they depend on fresh water for survival?
Today, only a few species of these ancient reptiles are still alive. This program looks at their history, habitat, diet, and behaviors.
It also examines natural and anthropogenic threats and shows how everyone can do their part to protect these endangered animals. Let's go!

Shark ecology
Because of this fact, SSI decided together with SHARKPROJECT to actively do something for the positive image of the sharks and brought SHARK DIVING to life. Experience the fascination of sharks in an impressive way!
Snorkelers, divers and all other non-divers interested in nature get to know these fascinating animals better during the SHARK DIVING program and learn more about the correct behavior when encountering sharks.
The dives are optional during this program, making it an excellent "prep specialty" prior to the start of a vacation.
Use the knowledge you have gained on future dives and help SSI to support the organization SHARKPROJECT, which assisted SSI in creating the SHARK DIVING material. 10% of the proceeds from the material sales of the SHARK DIVING program flow back to SHARKPROJECT as a donation every year. In this way, as a course participant, you also actively contribute to ensuring the survival of the sharks.
